After reading the booklet Preparing Host Country Support Staff for their Roles in International Schools, my deepest reflection is regarding ‘small talk’, that is, how I can build relationships between colleagues and know it and the importance of it. So, I did some small talk exercises with my foreign employees. After that, I realized that our greeting ways became different. This helps to cultivate a closer relationship, which is also very helpful for me to serve these foreign employees better in the future.

SUNNY WANG, Concordia International School Shanghai

If you are facing enormous challenges in the recruitment of foreign teachers, you are not alone.

Due to COVID restrictions, it has become more difficult for schools to recruit and retain quality teachers.  Throughout the pandemic, several schools have demonstrated remarkable resilience to ensure continuity in their teaching and learning provisions. These schools have achieved this amazing feat through tapping into networks and learning from peer schools and related organizations. Although schools may see recruitment as a very competitive landscape, there is much that school leaders and HR professionals can share to overcome the challenges creatively and to ensure a healthier recruitment ecosystem.

What is a Job-Alike

Search Associates has invited 4 International School recruitment and organizational management experts to facilitate this Job-Alike; two will moderate strand discussions in English and 2 will moderate strand discussions in Mandarin Chinese.

The Job-Alike will begin with a keynote presentation on the recruitment challenges and opportunities for 2022 and beyond. At the conclusion of the keynote presentation participants will engage in small group breakout discussions on one of the 4 topics. Each topic will be moderated in each strand.

Each breakout discussion will start with a focus question that the moderator will facilitate discussions amongst participants for experience and resource sharing.

At the conclusion of each breakout discussion key insights and best practices will be shared with all participants within that strand.

  • Identify best practices for recruitment processes, from advertisement to offer acceptance.

  • Collaboration skills that realize recruitment goals.

Based on extensive research, we have developed a model for virtual professional development that will:
