Recognise common pressure patterns in new leaders, including the temptation to “rescue” or over-function

Understanding Your Role, and Where Your Leadership Actually Sits

Essential Question: What is my leadership responsibility in this role, and what is not?

  • What leadership responsibility means in a middle leadership role

  • The difference between responsibility for leadership and responsibility for outcomes

  • How unclear responsibility leads to over-functioning and rescuing patterns

You will leave with

  • Clear understanding of what sits within your leadership responsibility or how to get that clarity without burning bridges

  • Greater confidence in not taking on work or responsibility that belongs elsewhere or should be shared

  • Language for holding your role clearly and consistently

Session 2

Setting Norms That Create Accountability Without Micromanaging

Essential Question: How do I set expectations that actually hold when I’m not in the room?

Focus

  • Why norms are a leadership tool, not a team-building exercise

  • How clear expectations reduce dependency on the leader

  • What to do when norms are unclear or ignored

  • A practical norms framework ready to use with your team

  • Language for introducing and reinforcing expectations

  • Clarity on how to address norm drift early

Leading Everyday Conversations with Clarity and Composure

Essential Question: How do I address issues early without avoiding or over-escalating?

  • Separating facts, interpretations, and assumptions

  • Staying grounded when emotions are present

Starting Well – The First Moves That Matter

Essential Question: What do I need to get right at the start to lead effectively?

  • The order in which early leadership actions matter

  • What needs to be established early and what can wait

  • How early decisions shape clarity and momentum

  • Clarity on what to prioritise in the first phase of leadership

  • Confidence in sequencing leadership actions without rushing
